from twisters in indiana, a world is learning about a school bus driver keeping kids safe and calm. she saw the tornado while driving her bus with 11 children on board, her quick thinking got them to safety just before the bus got tossed around. michael has a video of the heart pounding race against mother nature. >> reporter: it's 3:15 p.m., march 27ened, storm sirens are whaling , the 36,000-pound school intuse no match for the tornado. debris flying, lightning flashing, watch how the bus moves across the parking lot, slams in to a car, and then is lifted and carried across the road crashing in to a diner. the bus microphone picking up the sound of glass breaking inside the restaurant. on this bus, 13 minutes earlier, 11 children heading home, dismissed early because of the threat of severe weather. the driver reassures them. angel perry , the bus driver, scrambling to find a place to take cover. as the skies darken the chatter increases on the bus and the radio. you can hear perry as she makes her decision to turn the bus around. the bus now a minute and a half from the school. perry

on the ballot at all in the state of indiana. they had to contest the findings of the largest county in indiana because that county had initially said he had not turned in enough signatures to get on the ballot there. the rick santorum campaign is a mess. the rick santorum campaign is like a formula one race and everybody is in a formula one car, rick santorum is in a pinewood derby car. whatever you think about him as a candidate his campaign cannot seem to put its pants on one leg at a time. they can't do the basic stuff of running for president. the stuff that has nothing to do with whether or not you were popular, whether or not you have a lot of money, just means you're together enough to do the logistical paperwork, they have not been able to do that. frankly that makes it more amazing mitt romney is having a hard time beating this guy. but in the republican nominating process, rick santorum being a mess of a campaign has sort of been the least messy of all their messes. in a normal year with a normal political party running these things the big deal state tomorrow would be virginia. all

and indiana. the big story seems to be the temperature. time lapse camera showed it was a beautiful day out there. i temperatures of 81 degrees. that destroyed the previous record of high temperature. tomorrow we probably will not challenge the record. the temperatures before long are expected to shoot back into the '80s. where is the cold air. it is to our north. it will stay up there until probably one week from friday. you have another seven days to go before we get any relief or change in the temperatures. a lot of people are enjoying this weather. tonight at a cold front has passed across lake michigan turning the winds northeast it brought some cool air a short. this represents a 28 degree drop in temperature at o'hare airport. 53 degrees as we speak. the winds are not a factor at this moment. the wind speeds generally between 5-10 mi. per hour. do point temperature mostly in the upper forties or low 50s but as the temperature drops, that makes way for a little fog. we have been noticing it diminishing visibility throughout the evening. the only areas at the moment under a dense fog a

, missouri, illinois, tennessee, indiana and kentucky. over 300 reports of severe weather across the region described frightening details such as wind gusts of over 80 miles per hour and golf size hail storms. there were reports of power outages for thousands of people particularly in my home town of louisville. downed power lines, flash flooding were reported all across the state. news reports and accounts from my own staff tell me there's been considerable damage across kentucky including dozens of homes and businesses damaged and several people injured. two people in mccracken county near paducah were rescued from an overturned mobile home and rushed to the hospital in critical condition. from what we know at this point, however, thankfully it appears no lives were lost in kentucky. unfortunately the same cannot be said elsewhere as the severe weather that was that raged through six other states reportedly has claimed at least 12 lives. i join my colleagues from the affected states in keeping think thoughts today, keeping in my thoughts today all those affected by these storms especially
